Details Regarding Salt Lake City Hangar Incident
SkyWest is please to report that all three Flight Attendants that received medical attention have been released from the hospital.

  • At approximately 11:15 AM MT on Thursday, May 05, 2005 at the SkyWest Maintenance Hangar in Salt Lake City, two aircraft mechanics were “taxi checking” an aircraft.
  • Employees from a SkyWest New Hire Flight Attendant class were nearby taking pictures to celebrate their graduation from initial ground training.
  • As the plane was taxiing in a figure-eight pattern, Flight Attendants experienced a jet air blast from the aircraft.
  • Medical personnel and SkyWest leadership were immediately notified of the incident. The airline called safety experts and employee assistance personnel to offer onsite support and assistance.
  • 11 Flight Attendants were administered first aid treatment at the airport, and three were taken to a local Salt Lake City Hospital.
  • At approximately 12:00 PM, Jerry Atkin, SkyWest Airlines Chairman and CEO visited with the Flight Attendants and their family members at the training facility.
  • All three Flight attendants that received medical attention at the hospital have been released.
  • Safety remains SkyWest’s priority. The airline is cooperating with local authorities and safety experts regarding the incident and evaluating internal procedures to avoid incidents in the future.
