ST. GEORGE, Utah, September 5, 2003 – SkyWest Airlines,
a subsidiary of SkyWest, Inc. (NASDAQ: SKYW) welcomes their 100th
Bombardier manufactured Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ200) into service
today. SkyWest was one of the first United States airlines to
use the CRJ200 and took delivery of their first jet in 1994.
“The regional jet has revolutionized commercial air transport
since bursting onto the scene in the early 1990s,” said
Ron Reber, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
for SkyWest. “The CRJ200 continues to be welcomed by those
communities which appreciate the unique role our regional jets
play in terms of ensuring existing service, establishing new service
in markets not currently served, and in supplementing our partners’
own mainline service. We have had great success with the jet for
the past nine years and it will undoubtedly play a huge role as
SkyWest continues with our rapid jet operation growth. We know
the CRJ200 will continue to serve both us and our passengers with
the highest quality product for many years.”
Of SkyWest’s 100 CRJ200s, 83 have been delivered since
2001. SkyWest still has an order with Bombardier for 12 additional
CRJ200s to be delivered through February 2004, with an additional
238 options, 87 of which are set aside for partner United Airlines.
“I’m excited to know that our fleet of CRJ200s will
continue to grow as it is one of the most modern commercial aircraft
in the world,” commented Brad Holt, SkyWest’s Vice
President of Flight Operations. “Its state-of-the-art digital
technology systems give our pilots a definite flying advantage.
The CRJ200s advanced technology allows it to be one of the safest
and most reliable commercial aircraft in the world and its maintenance
record is impeccable.”
SkyWest Airlines is the nation's largest independently operated
regional carrier and carried 8.23 million passengers last year.
The US Department of Transportation has recognized SkyWest as
the number one on-time airline in the United States five out of
the last six months. SkyWest operates as Continental Connection,
Delta Connection and United Express carriers under marketing agreements
with Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines
respectively. SkyWest serves a total of 103 cities in 28 states
and two Canadian provinces and has more than 1,100 daily departures.
