Career Guide

To be considered for an avionics technician position with SkyWest Airlines, applicants must meet one of the following experience/training requirements:

  • Graduated from an accredited avionics school
  • Military training in avionics or electronics
  • Associate degree or higher in electronics
  • Eighteen months (or more) experience in the avionics industry
  • A&P certificate with previous avionics experience

Avionics technician job applicants must also:

  • Hold an FCC GROL license or be obtained within six months from hire date
  • Have completed Avionics line OJT training before working an independent shift
  • Have acceptable skills to read and understand blueprints and schematics
  • Possess basic Avionics skills
  • Own the minimum set of tools (CLICK HERE for the complete list of minimum tools required)
  • Be able to routinely lift 75 lbs. with or without accommodation 
  • Be able to climb, bend, kneel, crawl and stoop frequently in confined spaces
  • Have a stable employment history; SkyWest Airlines requires a background check on all employees
  • Possess excellent decision-making and communication skills
  • Have a positive attitude and work well with other employees

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of an Avionics Technician:

  • Comply with FAA regulations 
  • Work to solve routine and non-routine technical issues
  • Troubleshoot and repair aircraft electronic system
  • Work a rotating shift on weekends, holidays and night shifts
  • Perform overtime work as needed
  • Available for road trips 
  • Perform tasks as required by supervisor
  • Arrive to work on time; reliable transportation is required

Applicants who have been furloughed from an avionics technician job with another airline are required to submit a letter of resignation to their current airline employer and supply SkyWest Airlines with a copy of the letter.
