To make an informed and educated decision about choosing to fly SkyWest Airlines, here are the facts:

SAFETY RATES

SkyWest's Safety Record
In 35 years of service and with 1,700 daily flights, SkyWest Airlines has never been cited in a fatal accident.

Regional Airlines' Safety Record
In 2006, the accident rate for regional airlines was .025 per 100,000 departures (excluding Alaska).

Airline Safety versus Automobile and Train Safety
If you have a choice between driving or flying (whether with a regional airline or a major airline), you are 32 times safer flying.

AIRCRAFT
Proven Fleet
SkyWest operates four different aircraft types: Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) 200, CRJ700 and CRJ900, and 30-passenger EMB 120 Brasilias.

Maintenance
SkyWest hires and thoroughly trains only A&P (airframe and power source) certified mechanics. When you fly SkyWest, you know the airplane in which you're flying meets or exceeds all FAA and manufacturer maintenance requirements. It will have undergone at least one inspection in the past week and in many cases, the past 24 hours. All mechanical parts have been inspected for proper functioning and the aircraft itself has been inspected for structural integrity on regular and continuing cycles.

FLIGHT CREWS
Flight Crews
You also have the comfort of knowing you're flying with some of the most experienced and thoroughly trained pilots the entire airline industry has to offer. Pilots new to SkyWest average 3,000 to 4,000 hours of flight time, with many SkyWest pilots having well over 10,000 hours of flight time. Our pilots have the highest rating that can be obtained and must complete a five-week training course including flight simulator training before flying for SkyWest. All pilots continue their training at frequent and regular intervals each year throughout their careers at SkyWest.

Flight Crew Rest
Because safety comes first at SkyWest, we're careful not to schedule our crews to fly an excessive number of hours. Our pilots fly an average of 5-6 hours per day with an average nine-hour per day scheduled duty time, and they have an average of 13 days off each month. Our pilots fly approximately 940 flight hours per year, compared with the maximum 1,200 hours allowed by the FAA for pilots of our 30-seat and smaller aircraft and the maximum 1,000 hours allowed by the FAA for pilots of our 50 and 70-passenger jets.

FIRST IN TECHNOLOGY

Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS)
GPWS is a warning system designed to alert pilots when their aircraft are not in landing configuration and are getting too close to the ground. GPWS detects terrain ahead of and below the aircraft and warns pilots when there's an obstruction ahead. GPWS is a feature on all SkyWest Airlines aircraft.

Global Positioning System (GPS)
The GPS uses satellites to calculate an aircraft's position on the earth's surface. SkyWest is currently adapting GPS to aircraft serving remote mountainous terrain and is working to install GPS on all aircraft.

Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS)
A new, more advanced radar system, TCAS in the cockpit is the same equipment used in air traffic control towers to detect the position of all aircraft in the area. SkyWest Airlines participated in developing this technology. TCAS is on all new aircraft, and is currently being installed on all existing aircraft.
