SkyWest Airlines

Answers to our most frequently asked questions

Q: Are you owned by AirTran Airways, Delta AirLines, or United Airlines?
A: SkyWest is the nation's largest independently owned regional carrier – meaning we work under marketing and service agreements with these airlines. Currently, SkyWest operates on fee-per-departure agreements with AirTran, Delta and United.

Q: What exactly is the difference between "non-contract" and "fee-per-departure" agreements?
A: "Non-contract" markets mean that SkyWest is responsible for the marketing, advertising, inventory control and revenue for a market. In a "fee-per-departure" agreement the major carrier holds the marketing responsibilities. SkyWest's partners (whether AirTran, Delta or United) pay SkyWest an agreed-upon amount per flight departure with incentives for on-time performance, baggage handling and completed flights.

Q: What types of aircraft does SkyWest operate?
A: SkyWest operates a 30-passenger turboprop Brasilia EMB 120 aircraft. They also operate the Bombardier manufactured 50, 70 and 76-passenger Canadair Regional Jets (CRJ200, CRJ700, and CRJ900). Click Here for more information on SkyWest's aircraft.

Q: Are your planes safe?
A: SkyWest prides itself on being a leader in safety in the aviation industry. "Safety First" has long been SkyWest's mission and priority. SkyWest has never been cited for a fatal injury. To learn more about our safety record, you can Click Here.

Q: I've heard SkyWest flies mostly local traffic. Is this true?
A: With a network that spans from the beaches of California to the East Coast, into Canada and Mexico, SkyWest is basically "local" to wherever you are. SkyWest does provide feeder traffic to certain airports that cannot support larger aircraft (runway restrictions, passenger demand including the population of the city). Q: What's the best way to get a snapshot of SkyWest's operation?
